EcoDataCenter and Mistral AI Partner in Borlänge

A massive European AI infrastructure project is taking shape in Sweden as EcoDataCenter joins forces with Mistral AI to build a sustainable, large-scale hub.

A Landmark European Collaboration

In a significant move for European digital sovereignty, the Swedish data center operator EcoDataCenter has announced a strategic partnership with the French AI pioneer Mistral AI. According to an official press release, the two companies are set to build a large-scale AI infrastructure at EcoDataCenter’s facility in Borlänge, Sweden.

This partnership aims to provide the compute power necessary for Mistral AI’s advanced language models while ensuring the process remains environmentally responsible.

Powering AI with Swedish Sustainability

The choice of Borlänge is no coincidence. EcoDataCenter is known for its "climate-positive" approach, and the new infrastructure will benefit from:

• Renewable Energy: Utilizing Sweden’s stable and green power grid.

• Waste Heat Recovery: Excess heat from the AI servers will be fed into the local district heating system, warming homes in the Borlänge area.

• Scale: The facility is designed to handle the immense workloads required for training and deploying next-generation generative AI.

Strengthening European Tech

By keeping the data and processing power within Europe, the collaboration addresses growing concerns regarding data privacy and technological independence. Mistral AI, often called Europe’s answer to OpenAI, will use this Swedish hub to further develop its open-source and proprietary models.
